the 2026 solar eclipse
Experience Totality on a Private Peninsula
On August 12th, 2026, Iceland will experience its first total solar eclipse in over 70 years and Snæfellsnes is one of the best places in the country to witness it.
Saga Cabins sits on a private peninsula on the western edge of Snæfellsnes, inside the path of totality. The property has direct ocean access and unobstructed views of the mountains, craters and Snæfellsnes glacier that define this coastline. At low tide, the ocean retreats to reveal golden sand flats firm enough to walk on.
The partial eclipse begins at around 16:47 GMT and totality follows at approximately 17:45 GMT, lasting an estimated 1 minute and 23 seconds. The full event spans close to two hours.
